Redbud and Laurel: Iridescent #wetwildandaweebitofwhimsy #artforthepeopleatx This is the first of several versions of redbuds and laurel together in Alamo Heights. I painted this redbud for several weeks and there is another painting of the same tree at #artforthepeopleatx The blue sky is painted with interference blue, a paint that changes color. Difficult to capture in a photo, I learned about this paint this year from artist Stephen DeLuz who is in Hausmann as well. He uses it much differently. I got pretty crazy with other iridescent and interference pigments after that and the interference violet in the redbud really gives it that redbud color better than anything. This painting has to be seen in person to be appreciated! Beautiful Spring painted at Brackenridge Park this spring. #wetwildandaweebitofwhimsy #artforthepeopleatx What a gorgeous Spring it was and so wonderful painting in the park. All those fabulous iris, poppies, roses and other flowers in that spectacular setting. Several people photographed me while I was painting it, but my favorite was the one by my friend Stephanie Ellis Ecke​

I painted this last month at Barbara and Richards amazing garden in San Antonio. I just went crazier and crazier with the impasto effect using my palette knives and acrylic paint and Golden's extra heavy gel gloss. It is on a cradled birch panel and as I was painting I took the artichoke off the sides. It is very 3-D. Artichoke blossoms are an incandescent, vivid color that I keep learning about every year I paint them.

I am so excited to have been asked to join accomplished chef, Cheryl Soderquist and talented artist Nancy Schiesari, for a week of small-group Art and Cooking classes in the beautiful Apennine Mountains.

You can join us and enjoy comfortable accommodations at Pensione Bicocchi in Casa di Monte - near the medieval village of Calamecca - where you will have the opportunity to participate in the class of your choice.

In Cheryl's hands-on Cooking Class, you will learn how to prepare four Mediterranean inspired meals, or in the Art Class, capture the amazing surroundings through painting, sketching or photography - while learning new techniques from Nancy and I.

In addition to these relaxed learning experiences, we have planned some fantastic excursions to nearby villages, restaurants and a (family-owned) winery to compliment your weeklong retreat.

I really love Pride of Barbados! It is such a great summer flowering bush, but it is SO hot when it blooms. I went out this morning to the San Antonio Botanical Garden parking lot where a large stand of Pride of Barbados is planted. I went at 7:30 before they opened and thanks to the clouds, was able to paint until 10:30! I hope I can get a few more painting in next week. There is also, surprisingly, still cactus blooming there! Getting some more art produced before my show at the Twin Sister's Cafe and Bakery in September! So excited to see people are planning to come to the Reception there on September 9!

I am excited to report that they have sold out of and reordered the Blue Bonnets and the Poppy at the Botanical Gardens! Soon they will have more!
